Organization Description
Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service is a non-profit statewide legal services provider that assists in meeting the need for free civil legal services for Marylanders facing financial hardships.
MVLS focuses on providing free legal civil help, working in partnership with community programs and impacting laws and policies that harm individuals and families based on economic and/or racial status.
MVLS matches one client and one pro bono volunteer. They have a panel of more than 1,600 volunteer attorneys, CPAs and enrolled agents that can help you with family law disputes, housing and consumer cases, estate planning and administration, criminal record relief, and income tax issues.

Program Description:
Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service can help you resolve your civil legal issue by matching you with a volunteer lawyer who will represent you for free. Eligible clients are matched with a volunteer lawyer who has the skill and expertise to provide quality legal representation. You can apply for legal services by calling their telephone intake line or submitting an online application.

Eligibility-residence-county: MVLS provides pro bono legal services to individuals in every Maryland county, except Montgomery, Prince George’s, Allegany counties, and the eastern shore counties of Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Dorchester, Kent and Caroline. These jurisdictions have local pro bono agencies. MVLS, however, will handle a few specialized matters in these jurisdictions including tax disputes with the IRS, school suspensions, long term care Medicaid benefits and legal assistance for nonprofit organizations.
